1 INTRODUCTION

The Simrad SD 570 sonar is a medium range omnidirectional

sonar, designed for small, medium and large sized fishing

vessels, both purse seiners and trawlers. Great emphasis has

been placedon giving the best possiblepresentationonthe14”

high--resolution colourdisplay. The result is9 differentdisplay

modes, which gives a flexible choice for a large range of user

applications.

The transceiver system contains an advanced multifrequency

filter system (FM). This, in addition to giving a clear and

noiselessecho presentation,alsogivesthe systema fargreater

range than traditional single--frequency sonars.

The multi--element transducer allows the sonar beam to be

trained and tilted electronically in any direction. This gives

unlimited possibilitiesforautomatictrackingof a school offish

and for displaying the whole water volume around the vessel.

The retractable transducer unit is designed to be used at a

maximum speed of 15 knots.

WARNING ! Wheneverdockingthevessel,theswitchS101attherearofthe

Sonar Control Unit should be switched to OFF position to

preventinadvertentuseofthesonar.Forlocationoftheswitch,

see figure 1 in section “Maintenance”. The transducer might

be damaged if transmitting in air.
